Maha Kumbh Mela had begun on Makar Sankranti on January 14 will continue till April.

About Maha Kumbh Mela : Kumbh Mela is the largest collection of devotees around the world for any religious purpose. The festival of Kumbh is celebrated every 12 years on the banks of one of the four holy rivers - Ganga in Haridwar, Shipra in Ujjain, Godavari in Nashik and Triveni Sangam in Allahabad where Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati meet.

According to astrology, when Jupiter enters Aquarius and the Sun enters Aries, then Kumbha Mela is organized. Prayag's Kumbh Mela holds the highest importance among all the fairs.

Kumbh means - Kalash, in astrology, it is also the sign of Aquarius. The belief of Kumbh Mela is associated with Amrit.

Mud churning was first caused by the poison of water. All the gods and demons started burning with the flame of that poison and their ears began to fade. Everyone prayed to Lord Shankar on this. On his prayer, Mahadev ji kept the poison on his palm and drank it, but did not let it come down from the gorge. Due to the effect of that Kalkut poison, Shiva's gorge turned blue. That is why Mahadev ji is called Neelkanth. A little poison dripped from his palm, which was taken by poisonous animals like snakes, scorpions etc. After the poison was drunk by Lord Shankar, the churning of the sea started again.

Lord Shiva AKA Mahadev ji kept the poison of Samudra Manthan on his palm and drank it, but did not let it come down from the gorge.

The gods and the demons decided to share the Samudra Manthan and all the gems that appear through it. The most valuable gem that came out of the churning of the sea was Amrit, there was a struggle between the gods and the demons to get it.

To save the nectar from the demons, Lord Vishnu gave the vessel to Garuda. When the Asuras tried to snatch the vessel from Garuda, a few drops of nectar fell from that vessel and fell in Allahabad, Nashik, Haridwar and Ujjain. Since then, Kumbh Mela is organized at these places at an interval of every 12 years.

The war between these gods and demons took place in 12 places for 12 days with Sudha Kumbh and in 12 of those places, Amrit spilled from Sudha Kumbh, four of which are in the lok of death. The remaining eight are considered not in this lok of death, but in other worlds (in heaven etc.). The 12-year-old value of the gods is twelve days. That is why the status of Kumbh festival is generally made in every place in the 12th year.

Railways have started preparations to ensure that travelers do not face any problem in Haridwar Kumbh Mela. In view of the difficulties in purchasing train tickets, passengers will be provided reservation tickets for all classes till half an hour before the train starts. For this the counter has been commissioned which is working 24 hours. After finishing the Makar Sankranti festival bath, now the railway has started finalizing its preparations.
