Linda Cardellini’s Bold Role in No Good Deed
If you remember Linda Cardellini as the sweet, gentle Judy in Dead to Me, get ready for a big surprise. In the Netflix comedy series No Good Deed, she takes on a completely different kind of character, playing a sharp, calculating Los Angeles resident named Margo Starling.
This change was actually Cardellini's own idea. After her last big project, she told show creator Liz Feldman that she wanted to play someone tough, bold, and a bit mean—the exact opposite of her usual soft-spoken roles. Feldman loved the idea and built the character of Margo specifically for her: a woman who is highly smart, dishonest, and always looking out for herself.
The Real Estate Fight
The story focuses on a stressful, high-stakes bidding war over a highly desired 1920s Spanish-style house in Los Angeles. Margo is married to JD Campbell, a former soap opera star played by Luke Wilson. Together, they are the scheming neighbors to Lydia and Paul Morgan, played by comedy icons Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano.
As everyone tries to buy the house, their deep secrets and terrible choices quickly get out of hand. Margo stays right in the middle of all the trouble, using lies and clever tricks to handle the situation. It is a fast, fun performance that shows just how far people will go to get the perfect home.
The series was released on Netflix on December 12, 2024. In July 2025, it was placed on an indefinite hiatus. If the series is to come back for a second installment, it might be based on a brand-new concept.
