High intensity earthquake in Xinjiang

A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. According to the China Earthquake Network Center (CENC), the tremors were felt in Akqi County in northwest China around 6:02 am (Beijing time).

The epicentre of the earthquake was found at 40.88 degrees north latitude and 78.14 degrees east latitude. The news agency Xinhua quoted CENC as saying that the epicentre of the earthquake is at a depth of 10 km.

According to the National Center for Seismology, an earthquake struck the Xinjiang region of China at 3:29 am on Saturday. The magnitude of the earthquake was marked at 4.3 on the Richter scale.

In addition, according to the China Earthquake Network Center (CENC), a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck at 00:03 am Friday (Beijing time) in Merkong City of Aba Tibeto-Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

At 5:00 pm on June 1, China became an extremely vulnerable area for earthquakes. Local media quoted preliminary figures as saying that about 14,427 people were affected by the 6.1-magnitude earthquake that struck the city of Ya'an in Sichuan.

According to the city's earthquake relief headquarters, four people were killed and 41 others were injured due to the quake that struck the city. Earlier, the city's earthquake relief headquarters had said that a total of 13,081 people in vehicles were affected by the quake.
