The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) suggested that the base pricing of 5G airwaves in the 700 MHz and 3300-3670 MHz bands be reduced. The price of the 700 MHz band has been reduced by 40% to Rs 3,927 crore/MHz, while the price of the 3300-3670 MHz band has been reduced by 36%. The 3300-3670 MHz band's price has been cut from 492 crores per MHz to 317 crores per MHz. Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea have all slashed their pricing in order to attract aggressive bidding from the regulator.

The existing 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz spectrum bands, as well as additional spectrum bands of 600 MHz, 3300-3670 MHz, and 24.25-28.5 GHz, will be auctioned, according to TRAI. The 5G spectrum auction will take place across ten bands. TRAI has recommended a block size of 10 MHz for the 3300-3670 MHz band and 50 MHz for the 24.25-28.5 GHz spectrum to give telecom service providers more options. Airwaves in the 526-612 MHz range will not be auctioned by TRAI.

The Indian government wanted TRAI to submit pricing recommendations by the end of March so that 5G spectrum could be sold in May. By August 15, India's Independence Day, the government hopes to have 5G operational. In comparison to 1 Gb/s on a 4G network, a 5G network will give an astounding download speed of 20 Gb/s on your smartphone. It's as if you had a fibre optic connection in your pocket at all times. In less than a second, 5G customers will be able to download three hours of HD movies.

For 4G users, it takes at least 10 minutes to do this. The problem of buffering during the streaming session will also be almost eliminated as the data transmission on 5G network will happen at lightning speed. A 5G network will deliver data with a delay of less than one millisecond, compared to about 70 milliseconds (ms) of 4G networks.
