Purvanchal Expressway : UP’s economic & social progress?
India : Purvanchal is a geographic sub-region of Uttar Pradesh that is within the larger Bhojpuri region. It comprises the eastern end of Uttar Pradesh. It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on 16 November. This is a big deal, because the construction work has gone very fast. Generally this type of development has been slow in India.
This expressway looks spectacular in photos and videos. Let's see what people's expectations are. Well, we hope that every state proceeds like this. The construction work was started by the UPEIDA on 10 October 2018 and inaugurated on 16 November 2021.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 341 km Purvanchal Expressway at Karwal Kheri in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. He was greeted by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Narendra Modi also addressed a public meeting after inaugurating the expressway and witnessed a 45-minute air show organised by the IAF. Purvanchal Expressway : UP’s economic & social progress?
The highway is "6-lane wide which can be expanded to 8-lane in future. It has been constructed at an estimated cost of about ₹ 22,500 crores," according to an official statement. It is going to give a boost to the economic development of the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh especially the districts of Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau, and Ghazipur, the statement says.
PM Modi said the highway "will unite UP", adding, "When I laid the foundation stone of the highway three years back, I never thought I would land here on an aircraft one day. This highway will benefit the poor, middle class, farmers, and traders." Slamming the former governments, PM said they "punished" the state. "As an MP from UP, I have developed a relationship with locals. The manner in which they discriminated, the manner in which they did welfare of only their family - people of UP will permanently remove them from the path of the state's development... you did this in 2017," he said ahead of elections next year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the inauguration site in the C-130 Hercules and later a touch and go exercise was also performed on the expressway by the Indian Air Force (IAF). Indian Air Force fighter jets performed the 'touch and go' operation, under which 30 fighter planes touched the Purvanchal expressway airstrip and then took off.
Fighter Jet Miraj 2000, AN-32, Jaguar, and Sukhoi performed touch and go operations and showcased a landing on the expressway. The Indian aircraft showcased tricolor in the sky.
