iPhone manufacturing reduced by more than 50% in India

The second wave of Covid-19 is also impacting the manufacturing of Apple's smartphone iPhone. Manufacturing of iPhone-12 in India has decreased by more than 50%. Production in India has come down due to Covid being infected by employees of Foxconn, an Apple contract manufacturer in India. Foxconn has an iPhone manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu. This unit produces iPhones sold exclusively in India.

The outbreak of the second wave of corona continues in India. Tamil Nadu is also one of the worst affected states of Corona. Complete lockdown has been going on in the state since Monday. Public transport and shops in the state have been completely closed to curb Corona. According to a source, more than 100 employees of Foxconn have been found to be Corona positive. For this reason, the company has banned the entry to the factory by the end of May. Now only employees are allowed to go out but the entry has been completely closed. Now small quantities are being produced.

On the condition of anonymity, two sources said that the production capacity of the plant has been cut by more than 50%. However, sources have not informed the plant's production capacity. It is also not clear how many employees work in the plant, and how many employees are being provided dormitory facility. Taipei's company Foxconn is the world's largest contract electronic manufacturer and Apple's largest supplier. Foxconn says that some employees in the company's Indian unit have found Covid positive. These employees are being given all kinds of help including medical.

Foxconn says that the health and safety of employees are a priority for the company. That is why we are working closely with the local government and health authorities to tackle the Covid crisis. However, the company has not responded to factory production and staff entry ban. Due to the trade war between the US and China, Apple had decided to produce outside China. India got its big benefit from this decision of Apple. Apple announced in March that production of the iPhone 12 had begun in India.
