India : Natural gas production declined 18.6 percent
India News : The country's natural gas production declined by around 18.6 per cent in April due to a nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus. According to the official data released on Saturday, production declined due to a significant decrease in industry usage during this period.
According to the Petroleum Ministry data, 2.16 billion cubic meters of natural gas was produced in April. This is 18.6% lower than the production of 2.65 billion cubic meters in the same period a year ago.
Heavy downfall in production of ONGC:
The country's largest gas producer ONGC has seen a sharp decline in production, resulting in a drop in overall production. ONGC's gas production during the month under review declined by 15.3 per cent to 1.72 billion cubic meters.
The ministry said that the gas production of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has come down due to reduction in gas lift by customers due to Covid-19.
Crude Oil production also decreased :
Public sector oil India Ltd's gas production also declined by 10 per cent to 202 million cubic meters. Crude oil production in the country declined by 6.35 per cent to 2.5 million tonnes in the month under review. ONGC's crude oil production declined marginally to 1.7 million tonnes in April.
