Midjourney Zoom Out Existing Image
Midjourney can’t zoom out existing images, but it does have a pretty cool “Zoom Out feature” of its own.
Here’s how it works:
- 1. Upscale the image. Start by generating your desired image. Then, click the “Upscale” button below the image. This increases the resolution and unlocks extra options.
- 2. Choose your zoom level. Under the upscaled image, you’ll see three buttons: Zoom Out 1.5x, Zoom Out 2x, and Custom Zoom. These buttons apply increasing levels of zoom out, with Custom Zoom offering the most flexibility.
- 3. Generate zoomed-out versions. Clicking any of the zoom buttons will generate four new images based on the original. The canvas is extended and filled in according to the prompt and the original image’s style.
- 4. Refine further (optional). You can use the zoomed-out images as inspiration. Put them in your prompt along with specific details you’d like Midjourney to focus on.
Midjourney Zoom Out Existing Image
- Prompt: A cozy cabin nestled amidst a snowy forest
- Generated image: Close-up shot of the cabin’s porch with smoke curling from the chimney
- Zoom out 2x. Created four images showing the cabin in its wide forest setting. It includes snow-covered trees and mountains in the distance.
You get the same resolution as the original upscaled image when you zoom out. They might not be high-resolution for extreme zooming. This “Zoom Out feature” is so addictive. It is easy to lose yourself in the endless loop of generating and exploring.
Midjourney upscale offers two ways to increase the resolution of your generated images:
1. Built-in Upscalers (V5 and later versions):
- Upscale 2x or 4x. Choose from doubling or quadrupling the image resolution.
- Isolate the image. Use the U1, U2, U3, U4 buttons to select the image you want to upsize from a grid of four options.
- Click on Upscale. This will use GPU minutes from your subscription and generate a higher resolution image.
2. Legacy Upscalers (earlier versions):
- Many models available. Choose from different upscaling models with varying strengths and weaknesses.
- Applies to older images. Images created with earlier Midjourney versions have a lower resolution by default.
- More GPU minutes used. Be aware that legacy upscalers can consume more GPU minutes than V5 upscalers.
Here are some more Midjourney tips for using Zoom Out:
- Use descriptive prompts. Provide more details about the surrounding environment in your initial prompt. Midjourney can better fill in the blanks when zooming out.
- Consider composition: Think about how the zoomed-out image should be composed. If you want to emphasize the cabin in the snowy landscape, position it close-up.
- Experiment with different zoom levels. Try different zoom levels to see what works best for your desired scene.
I’m blown away by the level of detail Midjourney maintains when zooming out. The way it blends the existing elements with the generated sections is pure magic.
It’s like watching a blank canvas come alive. This is the kind of innovation that makes Midjourney special. It’s not just about making pretty pictures; it’s about creating whole worlds. As a writer, I’m finding Zoom Out to be an invaluable tool for worldbuilding. I can generate a close-up scene, zoom out to see the surrounding landscape, the distant settlements.
The way Midjourney expands on the original image is nothing short of artistic genius. I can’t wait to see what other groundbreaking features it has in store for us.
