Review:

I just started using Kittl, and it’s wonderful. How can you avoid infringing copyright when using your templates? Can simply changing the quote be enough to avoid infringement, or do you have to make changes to the graphic itself, e.g., modify the color scheme?

Actually, there is no tension. Any published design on Kittl is readily available for anyone to use on POD sites, apparel, or printable products. However, they suggest changing at least the text and color scheme so as not to potentially have a listing taken down due to a repeated design.

One more suggestion is to always check the print-on-demand specifications. Almost all of them, whether it’s Printify or Printful, have pixel size guides for every product.

You will need to check with the provider you plan to print with. They will be able to tell you if any layering or issues with transparency will take place. From our experience, most of the time there is no issue, but occasionally a printer will have difficulty distinguishing the middle over-layer color.

Things you didn’t know:

Size issues? The 16×20 was just a suggested size that maybe print-on-demand companies suggest. The first tip here was to fill the rectangle, not that you have to adhere to 16×20. This is more of a design tip to think about using the full real estate of your shirt, not so much about what potential size you will be printing.

It could be any size. Screen-printing, heat-transfer, etc. are all different possible methods that can have a variety of sizes, but using a print-on-demand company like Printful, Printify, or Awkward Styles has its limitations.

Is using AI designs on items you sell something that could be a legal issue? This will depend on the AI you are using and whether it is in beta or not. But with Kittl AI, of course, you can use those designs on your products!

We have great tutorials on our website for how to get started with t-shirt design, from editing templates to creating designs from scratch. It is a great way to learn. It can be helpful to start with general guidelines, but it is true that sometimes you never know what will succeed!
