WordPress Block Themes: Will They Become More Popular?
Blog: WordPress starters to page builders. It will give people an increased opportunity to customize pages and I am sure block themes will be more popular soon. I like classic WordPress themes. But, I also know how to design block themes.
It certainly is not a replacement for professional, conversion-based platforms like Thrive Themes, which we use. This offers so much more functionality than block-based editing.
It will not replace professional page builders, but incentivize developers to improve their offerings. It will introduce novices to the idea of page building and potentially increase market opportunities for developers to improve existing page building platforms.
I like the direction WordPress is taking. UI extensibility at the block/module level is huge. Combine that with the rise of almost flawless “Robocode” generation and transformation, and the WordPress world definitely changes almost overnight. It will be fun to watch how the ecosystem responds. Now, if WordPress gave us an easy way to hook into the block UI and drive it programmatically, everything changed.
Will WordPress block themes become popular soon?
It certainly keeps improving. Tried a block theme in 6.1.1. As a Beaver Builder user, I wasn’t impressed. I know it takes time to learn some things, but I don’t find the WordPress settings to be intuitive. Too many unexpected results when changing settings.
I also think folks will be frustrated by what features are core and theme-based. The interface doesn’t seem clear. I would love to get closer to metal and use block themes, especially for the performance improvements I’ve heard about. However, it’s not quite there yet.
WordPress needs improvement in its page builder. While this is wonderful for developers, they have really screwed it up for anybody who’s not a developer. Anybody who is just a site owner who doesn’t know anything about styling and development and all that other stuff is a mess.
I have worked in rural areas with people. They only want to get into a text editor and write a blog post. I think this is just too complicated for anybody that’s not on the back end of WordPress every day.
