Scientists advise the elderly to keep the heart healthy

Health/Life : To keep the heart healthy, scientists have advised the elderly. Scientists say, to avoid heart diseases, cut down on breakfast in the evening. Cut down on 250 calories a day, and do light exercise.

These habits help in keeping the heart healthy in old age. The research was done by researchers at Wake Forest School of Medicine in North Carolina. Scientists researched 160 overweight elderly people aged 60 to 70 years for 20 weeks. They were divided into three groups.

A third of these elderly people were asked to do treadmill for 30 minutes 4 days a week, along with a regular diet. The other group was asked to follow the same routine and cut calories. Half of these people were advised to consume 250 calories daily and half 600 calories less.

The research revealed that the elderly who only exercised, their weight decreased by only 1.7 kg. Elders who cut calories along with exercise lost up to 9 kg of weight. Heart health improved in the elderly who cut calories. Stiffness decreased in the largest artery of the body.

Researchers say, with increasing age, the arteries become hard. As a result, it becomes difficult for the heart to pump blood. Stiffness increases with age, and the risk of heart failure and stroke increases.

Lifestyle changes can reduce arterial stiffness, and improve heart health in the elderly. Compared to exercise alone, cutting calories with aerobic activity has been shown to have a positive effect on arteries. This small change can help keep the elderly healthy for a long time. These things must be taken into account.
