Minister for I&B Anurag Thakur took charge

India News : Hon'ble Minister for I&B Shri Anurag Thakur took charge earlier today. Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar and other senior officials of Doordarshan and All India Radio greeted him.

So, Anurag Thakur - who was earlier Minister of State for Finance, now made Minister of Information and Broadcasting.

36 new ministers were inducted while 7 junior ministers were promoted as part of the Cabinet expansion that took place on Wednesday. 15 would be part of the Union Cabinet, while 28 will hold charge as Ministers of State.

The women strength in the Narendra Modi government has gone up from six in the previous term to 11. Incidentally this is the highest number of women ministers in a government since 2004.

Jitendra Singh was on Wednesday allocated two new portfolios -- the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Earth Sciences --with independent charge after a Union cabinet reshuffle.

Seven ministers from Uttar Pradesh were sworn in at Rashtrapati Bhavan Wednesday, all picked with an eye on next year's assembly polls in the state. Of the seven newly inducted ministers from UP, Anupriya Patel heads BJP ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) and was a minister in the first Narendra Modi government. The rest are from the BJP.

The expansion saw more representation to states which will go to the polls next year, including Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, and is aimed at infusing more young talent in the government. Forty-three ministers, including seven who were elevated as cabinet ministers, took the oath of office at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan held with protocols.
