US ban on Chinese apps : Trump shocks China before leaving
Technology : Donald Trump has given China another setback before he leaves the post of US President. He has signed an executive order banning transactions from 8 apps owned by Chinese companies.
The apps that have been banned include WeChat Pay and Alipay Alipay of Jack Ma's Ant Group.
Trump said in his order that national security is threatened because of these apps made in China and operating from there. Therefore it is necessary to take immediate action on these apps. Trump also cited India's decision during the signing of the order, in which it has banned more than 200 China-linked software apps.
Apps will close after 45 days :
Trump's order states that all these apps are being created and operated by China. Restrictions against Alipay, CamScanner, QQ Wallet, SHAREit, Tencent QQ, VMate, WeChat Pay and WPS Office WPS Office will take effect after 45 days.
In August, Trump also banned the TikTok and WeChat app, owned by Chinese company ByteDance. However, the US court later imposed a ban on the short video sharing app TikTok.
