Facebook-Twitter summoned on misuse of Social Media

Social Media : The Parliament's standing committee on information technology has summoned the social media platforms Facebook and Twitter. To prevent misuse of social media, the committee has called on officials of both these platforms.

According to information available on the Lok Sabha website, officials of both platforms will be discussed on social news media platforms and the issue of safety of women in the digital space, taking care of the interests of citizens. Apart from this, the committee has also invited officials of the Ministry of Information Technology to discuss in this meeting. The meeting will focus on women safety in the digital space. Apart from this, the new policy of WhatsApp will also be discussed in the meeting. The Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology is headed by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. There are 31 members in this committee. Of this, 21 are Lok Sabha and 10 Rajya Sabha MPs. The committee includes MPs from all parties.

There is a dispute about WhatsApp's new policy

Facebook-owned social messenger platform WhatsApp recently released a new privacy policy. Controversy has spread in the country regarding this policy. A large number of people consider it to interfere with the privacy of users. After this, a large number of users are connecting to telegram and signal except WhatsApp. This policy was to come into force from 8 February. But after the controversy escalated, WhatsApp postponed it till May 15.

Business organization reached Supreme court

The trade union Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has reached the Supreme Court regarding WhatsApp's new privacy policy. CAT has filed a PIL and demanded a moratorium on the new policy in the interest of citizens. At the same time, there has been a demand to instruct the government to stop this policy. At the same time, Advocate Chaitanya Rohilla has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking a moratorium on WhatsApp's new policy. No concrete action has been taken by any committee of Parliament on social media platforms so far. In most cases, the committee has given up warning companies. Twitter had rectified the mistake after getting a warning in the Ladakh case. Apart from this, no case of data protection or misuse of social media related to these companies has reached the Supreme Court.
