A few countries with significant Muslim populations, such as Russia and Thailand, sit as Observer States, while others, such as India and Ethiopia, are not members. OIC’s growing economic and energy interdependence with India has become important in recent times.

• Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen was elected unanimously as the Secretary General of the OIC in the Extraordinary Session of the CFM held in Mecca on 17 November 2016.
